The reason I feel passionate about my work is I get to discover what people’s dreams are – for their businesses and in their personal lives – and then use insurance as a tool to help them get there.

It may sound crazy, but I’ve always been interested in insurance. It started at an early age, watching my father, who still runs his own insurance firm. Then when I went to college, the insurance classes were the ones I loved the most. So, it’s no surprise that I’ve spent my entire career in this field and started my own firm, Lang Financial Group, in 1994.

Here’s what I love about insurance.

When I meet with someone, whether they’re a business owner or a parent, my experience and genuine interest in them leads to a confidential conversation that gives me a clearer idea of what their challenges are in relation to their dreams. Then I use my skills in solving problems and crunching numbers to identify a plan that will help them, their business, and their family meet their long-term goals. Ever since I began in this business, I’ve been thinking about how to take care of our clients for the next 50 years, so naturally I have a succession plan in place with Cara and Alana.

I believe in straight talk.

We’re discussing difficult subjects: what to do if you get sick, or can no longer care for yourself. Or if they’re business owners, how to offer the right benefits for your employees and still live within the budget. It’s my job to decode insurance jargon so my clients can make sound, practical decisions to benefit their personal lives as well as their professional lives.

Here’s my commitment to every client: You will walk out the door in a better position than before we met.

As a third-generation leader of Lang Financial Group, I enjoy bringing a new twist to the firm’s reputation for an ideal client experience. I see insurance differently.

Growing up in a family of entrepreneurs, I’ve learned that successful people not only have to get the job done today, but they have to keep moving toward their dreams for tomorrow. An insurance plan is an important part of that. We need to protect ourselves and our businesses and families so that if a crisis hits, support is in place on both sides.

Clients are first.

We have never offered a product or service that we wouldn’t buy for ourselves or our friends or family. We listen first before coming up with a true customized plan. And then we stay in touch, so we know when things change for our clients and can update their plans accordingly. And we do this in whichever way they like best—either taking the time to educate people who want more detailed information, or providing a quick summary for those who prefer brevity.

I’m the fourth family member to join the business, and I take that legacy seriously.

As both a millennial and an Operations Management major, I’m accustomed to thinking outside the box, challenging the status quo, and coming up with new solutions to old problems. At Lang, I offer a fresh pair of eyes to assess the way we operate, and am always looking for new ways to deliver the best insurance products and services to our clients and their families.

Adaptability is key.

Insurance is about adapting to change: both change within the industry and change in our clients’ lives. From my college study abroad and extensive travel experiences, I’ve learned how to quickly adapt to unexpected situations, a skill I use every day at work. I stay current on industry trends which enables me to meet the evolving needs of our clients.

My focus is the client experience.

Insurance is a relationship-driven business, and fortunately I’m a people person. As a specialist, my goal is to make sure our clients know I’m here for them. Having grown up in the Chicago area, I have strong local roots and a national network to draw upon to better serve our clients.

They’re incredibly prompt. Sandy Zigmond has been outstanding in responding to questions and helping our staff get things done. Response times are terrific, courtesy and graciousness with the staff is noticeable. They follow up and make sure that things get down the way people want them done.
